Directly to the west of us are the Porcupine Hills, the foothills in front of the Livingston Range (the east edge of the Rocky Mountains). The foothills leading into the Rockies provide some great hiking. For the most part you can walk and camp where you like on the "crown land".
This area is very popular for hunting deer, elk, mountain sheep and moose during the fall hunting season. On the east side of the foothills, before the Livingston range starts, is a glider club with grass runway -- great mountain wave activity there at Cowley.
A little over an hour south of us is the Waterton/Glacier International Park, on both sides of the Canada and US sides of the border. Incredible hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing in the parks and good opportunity to photograph the wildlife. We have hiked a lot here. The views of scenery and wildlife are stunning, and because it's a park the animals feel safe, even when you get a little closer to them. Some favourite shots below.
